Non-Traditional/Adult Students
Non-Traditional/Adult Students
Non-traditional students are those who have not followed the "traditional path" to college directly from high school graduation. Many Non-Traditional students are 23 years of age or older, have been out of school for a number of years, or have a primary focus other than school (i.e. marriage, parenting, work, etc). IU Southeast is well equipped to handle the needs of Non-Traditional students.
SEEING IS BELIEVING
The "Seeing Is Believing" program offers prospective Non-Traditional students the opportunity to visit campus and learn more about IU Southeast. Seeing is Believing targets Adult or Non-Traditional students who may be apprehensive about returning to college or beginning their education. The program consists of presentations from Admissions and Financial Aid, a panel of current Adult/Non-Traditional IU Southeast students, and information about services available to Adult/Non-Traditional IUS students. Watch for upcoming dates!
ADULT STUDENT CENTER
The Adult Student Center provides programs, information, and support to adult students; advocates for adult learners; advises and counsels students regarding developmental needs and life transitions; and offers a "home away from home" where adult students can network and study with their peers. The ASC lounge has computers, local phone service, comfortable seating and a microwave and refrigerator for student use.
In addition, the Adult Student Center is home to the IU Southeast Non-Traditional Student Union, which represents non-traditional students within the university through interaction with both student organizations and the administration, and the Pinnacle Honor Society, an honorary group which recognizes the outstanding achievements of adult students. For more information call (812) 941-2650 or email campuslife@ius.edu.
METROVERSITY ADULT LEARNER AWARDS
Each spring, Kentuckiana Metroversity recognizes outstanding adult students and the faculty and staff who identify and address challenges unique to adult students. Recipients are selected in each of four categories: Outstanding Adult Undergraduate Student, Outstanding Graduate Adult Student, Outstanding Faculty Member, and Outstanding Staff Member. Awards are presented at an awards banquet held in April to honor recipients from all Metroversity institutions.
