This is an exciting time to be an English major. The possibilities are nearly endless. While many majors go on to graduate and teaching degrees, just as many find jobs in business administration, journalism, publishing, and screenwriting. Others write for the web, while some find careers in the government and non-profit sectors.
There are numerous career opportunities available for graduates in Fine Arts including continued study in master’s level programs. Post baccalaureate degrees in Fine Art, such as the M.A.T. or the M.F.A., lead to teaching careers at the primary, secondary, and college level. A Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts can also prepare students for careers in arts related fields, such as print and Web design, gallery direction, and exhibiting work as a professional artist.
Many of our graduates have gone on to complete terminal degrees in studio art and currently enjoy careers in the visual arts throughout the country. These include positions as university professors, museum curators and directors, gallery owners and directors, designers and design firm owners, and illustrators.
French
From Europe to the South Pacific, from Canada to the Indian Ocean, from Africa to the Caribbean basin, from the Middle East to Indochina, French is a language actively in use in business, education, government and international affairs, as well as just plain every-day communication. In addition to being the language of education, government, media, and international business and affairs in over 40 countries across the globe, only English surpasses French as the most popular second language of study around the world. As a result, when you travel to Beijing, Riyadh, Moscow, or other world capitals, chances are if English is not a viable language of communication then French will be. Vastly improve your credentials and your marketability in the world community: study French!
German
For centuries the study of the German language has been considered an excellent vehicle for fostering critical thinking, foremost in the sciences of chemistry, medicine and physics. For students interested in pursuing graduate degrees, or in learning how to think critically, the German language is highly recommended. German also opens up a world of opportunities in business and international relations. Germany and Austria are among the world’s largest economies and German, with almost 98 million native speakers, is Europe’s most common first language. Proficient German is a highly marketable skill for your future.
Spanish
Our graduates seek employment in a variety of fields, the most common of which are education, law, business, public service, and politics. The relatively recent growth of the Hispanic population in southern Indiana and Kentucky has created increased demand for interpreters and translators, making Spanish a valuable complement to most majors.
