There is no numerical equivalent for the grades of I, P, S, and W, so these grades are not computed into the grade point average.
EXAMPLE A: In a single semester a student earns 3 hours of A- (3.7 x 3 = 11.1 pts.), 3 hours of B (3.0 x 3 = 9 pts.), 2 hours of C+ (2.3 x 2 = 4.6 pts.), and 5 hours of F (0 x 5 = 0 pts.). The semester grade point average will be the total of the credit points earned in that single semester divided by the GPA hours completed that semester.
24.7 credit points earned = 1.90 (semester GPA)
13 GPA hours completed
EXAMPLE B: If this same student had previous IUS credit earned (let's say 30 GPA hours and 95.2 credit points), his accumulative (overall) grade point average for all courses completed would be the total of all the credit points earned in all semesters divided by the total GPA hours completed.
119.9 total credit points earned = 2.79 (accum. GPA)
43 GPA hours completed
