International Programs offers a wide variety of events throughout the academic year to which members of the campus and the community are warmly invited to attend. International Programs also publishes an International Events Calendar at the beginning of each semester which attempts to list all internationally-oriented events on the campus, including those offered by units other than International Programs. In the case where International Programs merely acts as a clearinghouse for information, we seek to provide alternative contact information so that you may contact event organizers should you need more information about a specific event. Please join us and experience global diversity without leaving home!

While going through his own personal tragedy, Bachir Lazhar, an older Algerian immigrant, is hired as a substitute in an elementary school after the abrupt death of a teacher. With great sensitivity and humour, Monsieur Lazhar depicts the encounter of two distant worlds: that of an immigrant and a group of shaken but endearing kids who, together, will transcend their losses. (DVD Cover) There is some violence in this film.

It’s rare for a young musician to earn comparisons to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. It’s even harder to find an artist who has entirely redefined an instrument by his early thirties. But Jake Shimabukuro has already accomplished these feats…on the ukulele. Yes, the ukulele. In the hands of Shimabukuro, the traditional Hawaiian instrument of four strings and two octaves is stretched and molded into a complex and bold new musical force.

Caché is a psychological thriller about a TV talk-show host and his wife who are terrorized by surveillance videos of their private life. Delivered by an anonymous stalker, the tapes reveal secret after secret until obsession, denial and deceit take hold of the couple and hurt them to the point of no return. This is director Michael Haneke’s dark vision of a relationship torn mercilessly apart by the camera’s unblinking eye. (DVD Cover) There is some vulgar language and violence in this film.
