Requirements for Associate of Science Degree in Journalism
Completion of 61 credit hours.
The 61 credit hours for the associate's degree consist of the following:
- 27 hours in journalism:
- C200 - Introduction to Mass Communications
- J200 - Reporting, Writing and Editing
- J210 - Visual Communications
- J280 - Seminar in Journalism Ethics
- J341 - Newspaper Reporting
- J344 - Photojournalism Reporting
- J351 - Newspaper Editing
- C327 - Writing for Publication (Horizon internship) which must be taken twice for a total of 6 credit hours (or approved equivalent experience)
- 13 credit hours in the following courses:
- H106 - American History II
- L155 - Information Resources in Journalism (1 credit hour)
- W131 - Elementary Composition I
- Y103 - Introduction to American Politics
- a cultural diversity course
- 21 additional credit hours from an approved list of courses:
- The Natural World (1 course)
- Mathematics and Formal Reasoning (1 course)
- The Individual, Society, and Politics (2 courses)
- Traditional Sources (3 courses)
